Lest We Forget: Honouring Heroes, Stitch by Stitch on VE Day

Today, on the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, we remember the profound sacrifices made for peace. As we reflect on this pivotal moment in history, we also hold close the memory of Master Corporal Mark “Izzy” Isfeld who dedicated his life to building peace.

Mark, a Canadian peacekeeper, carried a deep empathy for the children he encountered in conflict zones. It was this compassion that inspired his mother, Carol, to create the first “Izzy Dolls” – small, comforting figures meant to bring solace to young hearts amidst turmoil.

In his memory, and in the spirit of lasting peace that VE Day signifies, we invited our followers to share their “soldier” Izzy Dolls on our Facebook Page. These special creations, often adorned in miniature uniforms or the iconic UN blue beret, serve as a poignant tribute to Mark’s service and the ongoing efforts of peacekeepers around the world.

In this 80th anniversary year, may we all be reminded of the enduring power of compassion and the importance of striving for a world where every child knows peace.
