We are incredibly moved and inspired to share a wonderful story from Kemptville, Ontario. Specifically, the residents at Kemptville Retirement Living have transformed their knitting hobby into a powerful gesture of global kindness, creating and donating an amazing 883 Izzy Dolls!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Each one of these small, lovingly crafted Izzy Dolls continues the legacy of compassion started by Master Corporal Mark Isfeld and his mother, Carol. Over 30 years ago, Mark’s mother first knit the dolls for him to distribute to children during his peacekeeping tour in Croatia. Today, that legacy lives on through kind-hearted volunteers like the group in Kemptville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In particular, we want to give a special mention to resident Noella Claroo, who personally knit 225 of these beautiful Izzy Dolls herself!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What makes this initiative even more special is the community it has built. As staff shared, the ladies would often knit alone in their rooms. Now, however, they gather in the main lounge, sharing stories and creativity while knitting together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
First, the group delivered their creations to the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. From there, the Izzy Dolls will be sent to our partner, Health Partners International of Canada (HPIC). Subsequently, HPIC cleverly uses the Izzy Dolls as protective packing material inside medical kits sent to disaster zones and communities in need around the world. Once they arrive, the Izzy Dolls are given to local children, providing much-needed comfort. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
