Master Corporal Mark Isfeld’s mother Carol’s original Izzy Dolls were created without eyes, nor mouths. This was meant to symbolize the Izzy Doll’s role as a silent keeper of children’s secrets and worries. While offering comfort and a sense of security to children in need remains a core value of the Izzy Doll Initiative, we believe in the power of individual expression and encourage our volunteer crafters to be creative! Add eyes, mouths, different skin tones, hair colours and unique outfits – just remember that plastic buttons or metallic pieces could become choking hazards, so best to leave them out.
